Learning Center Ideas
As an example, children can use Leap Pad Learning Systems as a fun and interactive way to learn how to read in the library/listening area. This also allows you to combine two learning centers in one, Library/listening & Computers.
Other Learning Center ideas
Woodworking: painting on letter shaped wood pieces and encouraging children to spell their names with the letters.
Science: adding tin cookie sheets, and magnetic letters to encourage letter recognition, and allow chilren to explore science through magnets.
Blocks: add blocks with letters, and have pictures with the word of the picture on it, hanging on the wall. Encourage children to look at the pictures and the word and have them spell it with the blocks.
Literacy/Writing: Add clip boards with paper, and crayons. Have children walk around the room with the clip boards and find words than write the words on their clip board.
For a small group activity, you can designate a letter of the week and get the children to bring in something that starts with the corresponding letter. Have the child give his/her peers clues as to what the object is, nd get them to try and guess what it is.
*Song Ideas, might include the ABC's, B-I-N-G-O, or you may want to only sings song that correspond with the letter of the week. Example: If it was the letter "A" you might sing Apples and Bananas, Alligator on a log, or the ants go marching.
